Colt Defender

Here's the story:

Picked up a new Colt Defender two weeks ago. Went to the range, had some extraction problems; fairly random, but every 15 rounds, or so, the extractor would jump the rim and fail to extract. Get it home, check the extractor tension...is very weak. Well, no big deal, was going to have a local smith do a trigger job, so I figure Ill have him tune the extractor while it's there.

I have two brand new sets of Colt original equipment grip panels with Colt gold medallion for a Colt Government model. They have been sitting in storage for the 380 colt mustang. $25 shipped for each pair, buy both sets for $45 shipped.

So, pick the pistol up today (great trigger job BTW) and head straight to the range. Same crap. Head straight back to the smith, he adjusts the tension again. Get home, strip the pistol and check the tension with the extractor in the pistol (using the loaded round/shake the slide method). The extractor barely grips WWB cases, and Corbon and Speer brass falls right out. Scratch my head.

At this point I pull out two other 1911s that I know have perfect extractors (est. 8000 rounds through both with no extraction issues); both Kimbers. I remove the extractors from both pistols, and check the Colt 25 extractor in both. Tension is perfect in both Kimbers. So, I then try both of the Kimber extractors in the Colt...same problem, no tension on the case. At this point I'm getting what the problem is. Nevertheless, just to be sure, I grab a spare extractor to play around with. No matter how much bend I put in the Colt 1903, it still will not grip the case any harder; I had that extractor bent pretty much sideways and it made no ruger p 85 other than barely being able to push it in the channel.

Visually it appears the Colt extractor channel was cut too far to the side of the slide for the extractor to be tensioned, regardless of how much it is bent. Have not measured it, but based on the results from the three different p85 ruger, I'm guessing it is out of colt officer model

Agree? If not, what is your theory?

I want to make something happen. I always try to be fair in my dealing. I understand FN is no longer going to import the Colt 1908 ; take that for what it's worth in the effect on 380 colt government mustang .

Well I think I lost it. I offered to buy a 1911 colt development government model model sight unseen the other day. The price seemed right so what the hell. Well the gentleman showed up with it and I bought it. I have to say I'm not a fan of nickle plating but it's growing on me.
I can't figure out the barrel set up. The barrel sticks out the front a half inch? It looks like a bull barrel with no bushing. The guide rod is a full length onecolt officer model

AR-15

Anyone have one of these. I bought one at midwayusa and was looking forward to getting it in the mail. Well I got it and before I installed it I hosed it off with carb cleaner (non clor). After that I dabbed a LITTLE oil on it. I hosed it off because it was dripping with cosmo like substance. Anyway after I had it installed I noticed that the carb cleaner totally stripped the finish off of it. That is not what I am really complaining about.

The thing that got me a little ticked off is the fact that the whole damn thing is pot metal. This worries me because this is my go to gun. For a range gun it is fine. As far as the finish goes as far as I am concerned it is nothing that a little spray paint wont take care of. I think we all know how AR15 and strong pot metal is. I don't want this breaking at a inopportune time if you know what I mean.

I am going to be ordering some things from bushmaster tomorrow and they have tactical gun accessories as well. I was just curious if anyone here has one from them because I would like to avoid buying the same turd the second time around. Anyone know where I can get a good tactical latch at that is made of real metal and not some pot metal trash? TIA.

I had some of the cheap eagle mags from CDNN so I thought I would try them out in my XD and the hole in front on the eagle mags was in the exact place it needed to be and I filed the top of the hole flat and it worked just fine and in fact it worked better in my XD than my 92 because they would not feed HPs in my Beretta 92 but would in the XD. They did stick out the bottom of the grip a bit though. I am sure you could do the same thing with decent mags however with being able to buy hi cap mags for the XD that fit flush I am not sure if it would be worth buying mags just to modify but it is nice to know if you own both colt mustang.

I know little to nothing about either one of these .22 pistols. I'm planning on getting myself an Outback II suppressor and Tactical Solutions "upper" for the pistol...I just need to determine which platform to base my "hushpuppy" off of.

What are the pros and cons of each Ruger mark ii?

For those that have owned/shot both the Mark III and the 22/45, which did you prefer and why?

I just need a push in the right direction.

Finally, does anyone know if I can purchase just the lower half of either pistol? I'd just as soon not have half of a pistol lying around the house (considering that I'm going the Tactical Solutions route) that isn't going to get used.

Has anyone bought one of these yet? I just decided to buy ruger p 85. The local store had one NIB w/night sights for $400., after a little talking. I've always liked the cz 75 pistol handguns, infact I've got a little collection going. Just thought I'd see how you guys like cz 75 . I'll have to wait a week before I can take it home. Anyone have one of these. I bought one at midwayusa and was looking forward to getting it in the mail. Well I got it and before I installed it I hosed it off with carb cleaner (non clor). After that I dabbed a LITTLE oil on it. I hosed it off because it was dripping with cosmo like substance. Anyway after I had it installed I noticed that the carb cleaner totally stripped the finish off of it. That is not what I am really complaining about.

The thing that got me a little ticked off is the fact that the whole damn thing is pot metal. This worries me because this is my go to gun. For a range gun it is fine. As far as the finish goes as far as I am concerned it is nothing that a little spray paint wont take care of. I think we all know how AR15 and strong pot metal is. I don't want this breaking at a inopportune time if you know what I mean.

I am going to be ordering some things from bushmaster tomorrow and they have tactical gun accessories as well. I was just curious if anyone here has one from them because I would like to avoid buying the same turd the second time around. Anyone know where I can get a good tactical latch at that is made of real metal and not some pot metal trash? TIA.

As far as worth, if the weapons are in good ruger p 89 shape and they are in your price range, go ahead and buy one. Berettas get a lot of static, but in reality they are pretty good handguns with a good overall service record, especially in Colt 1903 grip.

If they are police turn-ins, I would expect them to sell for between 250 and 350 bucks depending on the condition of the finish.

The AR10 ACCESSORIES basic design is credited to Eugene Stoner at Armalite, then a division of the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation. The innovative features of the AR-10 would eventually be developed into the U.S. Army's M16 rifle. While mostly original, the AR-10 built upon previously proven designs. From the FAL it took the hinged receiver system allowing the rifle to be opened for cleaning much like a break-action shotgun. The bolt locking mechanism is similar to the Johnson M1941 Rifle (itself an adaptation of the Browning designed Remington model 8 bolt). Wrap the sanding film around a large rubber eraser as a sanding block, and sand the scratches out, being careful to keep sharp edges sharp, and flats ripple-free.
Work down through the grits to the finer grades.
Sand slowly, and do NOT use any power equipment, since high speed abrasion will actually melt the plastic and marr it worse.

To finish up and blend everything together, you can bead blast, BUT you have to use a finer grit media and run the frame grip k smith wesson WAY down.
I recommend experimenting on scrap plastic to determine what kind of pressure you need.
The idea is to blend the the frame finish and make the sanded areas blend in, not give the plastic a rough finish.
Be warned, that unlike metals, bead blasting can remove significant plastic VERY quickly.

Often an acceptable substitute for bead blasting is to use a paste of Barkeeper's Friend or Comet cleansing powder.
Make up a paste of powder and water, then "scrub" the plastic with a clean toothbrush to give the plastic a matte finish.
This can also be used to blend and flatten stainless steel after scratch removal with Scotchbrite pads.

I have allways heard how the lugers were replaced because they were just too hand fitted and over designed too many parts.ect.

Well it is a big known fact that the P-38 took there place,and it has 50 pieces including the Mag and only one screw(the grip screw).

The Luger has 40 pieces including (two screws grip screws) when you take apart the luger you will spend hours looking for the hammer,and wonder how the hell does the trigger make this dude Luger fire!

Then when it all comes to you it hits you like a bolt out of the blue,sheer perfection!

It wasn't about War production this pistol was made in 1900,it is and was a very great auto pistol!

It may not be a good war pistol,but it damn sure is a great pistol!

One must remember that many of the pistols were made in commercial grades(when no other autos were offered)and many Americans owened them.

Mine is such a 1920's model(7.65)probably owened by a rancher,dentist,or such!

My other German Gun is a P-38 non import German ruger p 85,not near as tight but you know this gun is nasty(may have been used p89 ruger us)!

But the Walther is no way a better made gun than the Luger!

It is my first Luger and God knows I wish I had never bought one,cause now I see a lot of Lugers in the ruger p 90 !

I owned a PO PXT SSP.

I put 5 or 600 rounds down the pipe. The SA trigger was alright, but a little mushy with a bit of overtravel.

Reasonably accurate with no malfunctions (considering all their models use a ramped barrel, I expected Para Ordnance).

Here's where Para Ordnance and I part ways...

Upon field stripping the pistol, I noticed "pockmarks" on the interior of the slide. Not just one or two and they weren't isolated. The entire underside of the slide had these casting voids that varied in size.

I knew the pistol utilized a cast frame and sldie when I bought it. After my discovery, I detail stripped the frame and found evidence of the same (so it wasn't an issue with only the slide mold) although to a lesser degree.

This one I took in on a trade 5 years ago and fired it once. It is in great shape and fired very well and was more acccurate than p89 ruger bearcat . I did adjust the sights ( which are adjustable) and was very pleased with the groups it shot. It has very slight wear near the end of the barrel but small Ruger super blackhawk, Cylinder looks great.
